Government Funding

As a member of the Victorian Film and Television Working Party, SSAV produced a submission on behalf of the membership which was included in the Victorian Film & Television Industry Taskforce Report presented to the Victorian Government. This report recommended a number of measures including the division of Cinemedia into Film Victoria and The Australian Centre for the Moving Image. This became law under The Film Act 2001 and the two organisations commenced their operations from 1 January 2002. Also recommended and adopted were significant increases in the level of government funding for the industry through Film Victoria. Melbourne Film Office has provided funding to SSAV to assist with marketing materials including this web site.

Establishment of Industry Broadband Network

Secured funding to assist the financing of a submission to the Federal Government to apply for a grant to set up an industry broadband network. Surveyed SSAV membership concerning their broadband network requirements. Ongoing discussions with the Department of Regional and State Development with a view to obtaining government assistance in the establishment of an industry specific broadband network.

Australian Content Quotas

SSAV has extensively lobbied politicians of all persuasions on the dangers to the industry contained in the Federal Government Productivity Commission Report recommending the elimination of Australian content quotas on advertising.

Melbourne Development Board

Advising the Economic Development Unit of the City of Melbourne to secure funding from the Melbourne Development Board for an audit of home based or small office professionals. This initiative aims to assist the business growth opportunities for Micro Businesses by helping individuals to join together and form networks to bid for work on a collective basis.

Training

Discussions are continuing with various educational institutions on relevant course structures for the industry.
